Christian arrogance? Nah, not at all!
I don't follow professional sports. I sure as hell don't follow golf. I could really not care less about Tiger Woods, who he sleeps with, or whether his wife beat him up when she found out who he sleeps with.
I don't follow FOX News, or any of the talking-head shows on TV. What idiotic thing one of them says usually goes right past me without me paying the slightest notice - I expect *everything* that they say to be idiotic.
I really, really don't give a shit what particular flavor of religion any of these people follow - I figure most of them only choose one that they figure will help best with their careers, and flog that publicly in order to manipulate the rubes. That goes for sports figures who credit Jesus for that touchdown, news anchors who credit prayer with their cancer going into remission, all of it. It's just an act, unless they are actually even more stupid than I think.
But sometimes, one of these numbskulls will do or say something that even gets my attention. Here's a good one:
That's Brit Hume, senior political analyst for Fox News. And just in case you don't or can't see the vid, here's what this dipshit said:
Brit Hume had some advice for Tiger Woods during this week’s “Fox News Sunday.” Woods will recover as a golfer, Hume says, but it remains to be seen whether he will recover as a person.
“He’s said to be a Buddhist,” Hume said. “I don’t think that faith offers the kind of forgiveness and redemption that is offered by the Christian faith. ... Tiger, turn to the Christian faith and you can make a total recovery.”
Can these people be any more arrogant? Seriously???

Forgiveness on Sunday
I like the maxim, "Christians ask for forgiveness on Sunday for the sins they'll commit again on Monday."
Desire = Suffering
Doesn't Buddhism teach that Desire leads to Suffering?
How is that NOT a lesson for Tiger, given the circumstances?
Just sayin'

Because we'e seen SUCH great behavior in the
married Christians in this country right? You know, Sanford, Craig, etc. etc., they were just so good to their wives with all that Jesus in 'em! BTW, anyone else find it funny to think if you reversed the genders how it would have played in the media? A guy chasing his unfaithful wife to her car with golf club in hand, causes her to crash car in the process. Suddenly the whole assault with a pretty dangerous if not deadly weapon becomes a little less funny . . .
I think that at a purely
I think that at a purely theological level, Hume is exactly right. Buddhism does not offer the themes of redemption and forgiveness that are inherent to Christian theology. Hume of course assumes that Tiger is ridden with some kind of moral angst, guilt, or shame.
Maybe he is, maybe not. But if he is, then it is a theologically correct statement that Christianity is better equipped to work within these human themes. Getting pissy about that is illogical and indicative of theological infancy -- which of course basically defines America on both the Right and the Left.
Xtianity Uber Alles
ORLY? Do you think Hume knows the slightest thing about Buddhism? Or is he just trying to impose his religion on everyone else? Same questions to you...
I don't know if he'll grow as a person...
but if Tiger wants to get in America's good graces (those that follow golf, or at least follow Tiger as he relates to golf), Hume is exactly right: all he has to do is tell the public "I made a mistake, but now I've found Jesus and I'm better now. I'm a Christian like most of y'all, so you can trust me."
And the mostly Christian American public will eat it up. It reaffirms how awesome their awesome God is (HE redeemed another sinner, you know) and let's them go back to admiring Tiger's golfing genious guilt-free.

Rick Warren just pulled in $2.4 million
Rick Warren just pulled in $2.4 million dollars. I think Tiger (is that his real name?) should become a Christian just for the money alone. After losing all those sponsors and potentially more in a divorce, it's easy money man. He'll get his sponsors back and get an even larger following.
